Old Testament
Prov 1:1~2:22
Prov 1
1 The proverbs of Solomon the son of David, the king of Israel:
2 For knowing wisdom and instruction; / For discerning words of understanding;
3 For receiving instruction in wise conduct, / Righteousness, justice, and equity;
4 For giving prudence to the simple, / Knowledge and discretion to the young man;
5 That the wise man may hear and increase in learning, / And he who has understanding may acquire sound counsel;
6 For understanding proverb and figure, / The words of the wise and their difficult sayings.
7 The fear of Jehovah is the beginning of knowledge; / Fools despise wisdom and instruction.
8 Hear, my son, the instruction of your father, / And do not reject the teaching of your mother;
9 For they will be a wreath of grace for your head / And ornaments for your neck.
10 My son, if sinners entice you, / Do not consent.
11 If they say, Come with us; let us lie in wait for blood; / Let us ambush the innocent without cause;
12 Let us swallow them alive like Sheol, / And whole, like those who go down into the pit.
13 We will find all manner of precious goods; / We will fill our houses with booty;
14 Throw in your lot with us; / We will all have one purse —
15 My son, do not walk with them on this way; / Keep your foot from their path.
16 For their feet run toward evil, / And they hasten to shed blood.
17 For in vain is the net spread / In the eyes of any bird;
18 Yet they lie in wait for their own blood; / They ambush their own lives!
19 Such are the ways of everyone greedy for gain; / It takes away the life of its owners.
20 Wisdom cries out in the street; / She utters her voice in the open squares.
21 At the head of the tumultuous street she cries; / At the entrance of the gates in the city she utters her sayings:
22 How long, O simple ones, will you love simpleness, / And will scoffers delight themselves in scoffing, / And will fools hate knowledge?
23 Turn yourselves at my reproof — / Immediately I will pour out my spirit on you; / I will make my words known to you.
24 Because I called and you refused; / I stretched out my hand and no one heeded,
25 And you neglected all my counsel / And would have none of my reproof;
26 I also will laugh at your calamity; / I will mock when what you dread comes,
27 When what you dread comes like a storm, / And your calamity comes like a whirlwind, / When distress and anguish come upon you.
28 Then they will call on me, but I will not answer; / They will seek me diligently, but they will not find me.
29 Because they hated knowledge / And did not choose the fear of Jehovah,
30 And would have none of my counsel / And despised all my reproof;
31 They shall eat of the fruit of their own way / And be filled with their own devices.
32 For the turning away of the simple will kill them, / And the prosperity of the foolish will cause them to perish;
33 But he who listens to me will dwell securely / And will live at ease, without the dread of evil.
Prov 2
1 My son, if you receive my words / And treasure up my commandments within you,
2 Making your ear attentive to wisdom / And inclining your heart to understanding;
3 Indeed, if you cry out for discernment / And lift up your voice for understanding;
4 If you seek her like silver / And search for her like hidden treasures,
5 Then you will understand the fear of Jehovah / And find the knowledge of God.
6 For Jehovah gives wisdom; / From His mouth come knowledge and understanding;
7 He stores up sound wisdom for the upright; / He is a shield to those who walk in integrity,
8 Guarding the paths of justice / And keeping the way of His faithful ones.
9 Then you will understand righteousness and justice / And equity, indeed, every good path.
10 For wisdom will enter your heart, / And knowledge will be pleasant to your soul;
11 Discretion will watch over you; / Understanding will keep you:
12 To deliver you from the way of evil, / From the man who speaks perverse things,
13 From those who forsake the paths of uprightness / To walk in the ways of darkness,
14 Who rejoice in doing evil / And delight in the perverseness of evil,
15 Whose paths are crooked, / And who are devious in their ways;
16 To deliver you from the strange woman, / From the adulteress who flatters with her words,
17 Who forsakes the companion of her youth / And forgets the covenant of her God;
18 For her house sinks down to death, / And her paths lead to the dead;
19 None who go to her ever return, / Nor do they attain to the paths of life;
20 That you may walk in the way of good men / And keep the paths of the righteous;
21 For the upright will dwell in the land, / And the perfect will remain in it;
22 But the wicked will be cut off from the land, / And the treacherous will be uprooted from it.
New Testament
1 Cor 14:26~40
1 14
26 What then, brothers? Whenever you come together, each one has a psalm, has a teaching, has a revelation, has a tongue, has an interpretation. Let all things be done for building up.
27 If anyone speaks in a tongue, it should be by two, or at the most three, and in turn, and one should interpret;
28 But if there is no interpreter, he should be silent in the church, and speak to himself and to God.
29 And as to prophets, two or three should speak, and the others discern.
30 But if something is revealed to another sitting by, the first should be silent.
31 For you can all prophesy one by one that all may learn and all may be encouraged.
32 And the spirits of prophets are subject to prophets;
33 For God is not a God of confusion but of peace. As in all the churches of the saints,
34 The women should be silent in the churches, for they are not permitted to speak; but they should be subject, even as the law also says.
35 But if they desire to learn anything, they should ask their own husbands at home; for it is a shame for a woman to speak in the church.
36 Or was it from you that the word of God went forth? Or did it reach only to you?
37 If anyone thinks he is a prophet or spiritual, let him fully know the things which I write to you, that they are the commandment of the Lord.
38 But if anyone ignores this, let him ignore it.
39 So then, my brothers, desire earnestly the prophesying, and do not forbid the speaking in tongues.
40 But all things must be done becomingly and in order.
